1- HOW ARE APPLICATIONS EVALUATED IN THE DOCTORAL PROGRAM?

In the evaluation, 50% of ALES, 20% of undergraduate or graduate GPA, 10% of foreign language score, and 20% of written/oral exam or interview score are taken into account, and a ranking is made among those who score at least 65 in total. Candidates who do not score at least 60 out of 100 in the written/oral exam or interview or do not attend the written/oral exam or interview will not have their success score calculated. In case of equal success scores, priority is given to the candidate with the higher ALES score, undergraduate/graduate GPA, and foreign language score, respectively.

2- HOW LONG IS THE ALES SCORE VALID?

It is valid for 5 years.

3- HOW LONG IS THE MILITARY POSTPONEMENT EXTENDED FOR STUDENTS ENROLLED IN DOCTORAL PROGRAMS?

In doctoral programs, military postponements are requested from the Military Recruitment Regional Directorate to be 6 years and 6 months from the date of registration, only once. The postponement process cannot be carried out for students who are in a state of desertion or whose postponement has been delayed for another reason.

4- WHAT IS THE DOCTORAL QUALIFICATION AND WHEN CAN I TAKE THE DOCTORAL QUALIFICATION EXAM?

A student who successfully completes their courses and seminars can take the Qualification Exam on the dates specified in the Institute Academic Work Calendar. Doctoral qualification exams are held twice a year, at the end of the fall and spring semesters. A student who has reached the qualification stage and will take the qualification exam selects the qualification stage from the course registration system in the semester they will take the exam. A student who fails the qualification exam retakes the exam in the next semester. A student who fails this exam as well is dismissed from the institute.

5- HOW MANY MEMBERS ARE THERE IN THE DOCTORAL QUALIFICATION EXAM JURY?

The qualification exam jury consists of five (5) members, including the advisor, at least two of whom are from other higher education institutions.

6- I PASSED THE DOCTORAL QUALIFICATION EXAM, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

For a student who passes the qualification exam, a thesis monitoring committee is formed within one month with the recommendation of the relevant EABD/EASD chair and the approval of the EYK. The Thesis Monitoring Committee (TİK) consists of three faculty members. In addition to the thesis advisor, one member from within and one from outside the relevant EABD/EASD are included in the committee.

7- I AM A DOCTORAL STUDENT, HOW CAN I DETERMINE MY THESIS TOPIC?

A student who successfully completes the doctoral qualification exam defends their thesis proposal, which includes the purpose, method, and work plan of the research they will conduct, orally before the thesis monitoring committee within six months at the latest. The student distributes the thesis proposal to the committee members at least fifteen days before the oral defense. The thesis monitoring committee decides by absolute majority whether to accept, revise, or reject the thesis proposal presented by the student. One month is given for revisions. The relevant ABD. The chair notifies the institute of the decision of the thesis monitoring committee along with the reasons within three days following the thesis proposal defense. The thesis proposal defense can be held open to listeners, and listeners can also contribute to the thesis proposal.

8- IF I SELECT THE DOCTORAL QUALIFICATION EXAM FROM THE SYSTEM BUT DO NOT TAKE THE EXAM, WILL I BE CONSIDERED UNSUCCESSFUL?

No, you will not be considered unsuccessful, but according to the YÖK postgraduate regulations, students accepted with a master's degree must take the qualification exam by the end of the fifth semester at the latest.

9- MY THESIS PROPOSAL DEFENSE WAS SUCCESSFUL, MY THESIS TOPIC WAS ACCEPTED, WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW?

For a student whose thesis proposal is accepted, the thesis monitoring committee (TİK) meets at least twice a year, once between January-June and once between July-December. The student submits a written report to the committee members at least one month before the meeting date. This report includes a summary of the work done so far and the work plan for the next period. The student's thesis work is determined as successful or unsuccessful by the committee. A student who is found unsuccessful by the committee twice in a row or three times intermittently is dismissed from the institute. A student who does not attend the thesis proposal defense within the period specified in the first paragraph without a valid excuse is considered unsuccessful, and their thesis proposal is rejected.

10- I FAILED THE THESIS PROPOSAL DEFENSE, WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW?

A student whose thesis proposal is rejected has the right to choose a new advisor and/or thesis topic. In this case, a new thesis monitoring committee can be appointed. A student who wants to continue with the same advisor is taken to the thesis proposal defense again within three months, and a student who changes the advisor and thesis topic is taken to the thesis proposal defense again within six months. A student whose thesis proposal is rejected in this defense as well is dismissed from the institute. 11- HOW MANY TİK REPORTS ARE REQUIRED TO DEFEND MY THESIS? At least three (3 TİK) Thesis Monitoring Committee reports are required for the completion of the student's thesis.

12- I HAVE COMPLETED AT LEAST THREE TİK REPORTS, CAN I DEFEND MY THESIS?

The thesis, which is completed according to the institute's thesis writing rules, is first submitted to the advisor. If the advisor decides that the thesis can be finalized and the student is ready for defense, the Thesis Submission Report is filled out, and the jury candidates to be included in the defense are determined. The prepared report is submitted to the institute secretariat for signature for the course and credit control of the student requesting the defense. A student in the doctoral program is approved for defense if they have completed at least 3 TİK Reports and a total of at least 240 ECTS credits. The advisor prepares the plagiarism software program report related to the thesis along with their opinion that the thesis is defensible and submits it to the jury members. After the Thesis Defense Jury members are determined by the EYK decision, 7 spiral-bound copies of the thesis are sent to the jury members. The thesis jury must meet and the defense must be held within one month from the date the Administrative Board meets. The rate in the plagiarism program report related to the thesis cannot exceed 25%. In case of detection of real plagiarism in the data in the report, the thesis is sent to the EYK for a decision along with the justification. The jury consists of five faculty members, including the advisor, three of whom are members of the student's thesis monitoring committee and at least two of whom are from other higher education institutions. If any of the exam jury members do not attend, the exam is held with the participation of the substitute member upon the call of the EABD/EASD chair. If the jury member selected from a different higher education institution does not attend the exam, the external substitute member is invited to the exam, and a new exam date is set not to exceed fifteen days. If the jury members cannot gather for the second time, the EYK decides on the action to be taken regarding the defense exam. The jury members gather within one month at the latest from the date the thesis is delivered to them and take the student to the thesis defense. The thesis defense exam consists of the presentation of the thesis work and the subsequent question-answer session. Thesis defense meetings are held open to the participation of faculty members, postgraduate students, and experts in the field. After the completion of the thesis exam, the jury decides by absolute majority whether to accept, reject, or revise the thesis in a closed session to the listeners. Students whose theses are accepted are evaluated as successful. This decision is notified to the relevant institute by the EABD/EASD chair within three days following the thesis exam with a report. A student whose thesis is rejected is dismissed from the institute. A student who is given a revision decision makes the necessary revisions within six months at the latest and defends their thesis again before the same jury. A student who fails in this defense as well is dismissed from the institute.

13- MY THESIS WAS ACCEPTED IN THE DEFENSE, WHAT SHOULD I DO NOW?

There is a one-month period for the submission of the thesis after the defense. Within three days after the defense, the Personal Jury Report, Joint Jury Report, and Attendance List prepared by the defense jury members are submitted to the ABD. Secretariat. Since the Jury Approval Form with wet signatures will be used during binding, a sufficient number of Jury Approval Forms are signed by the jury members.

Minor corrections suggested by the jury are completed and submitted to the advisor for the last time. The finalized thesis is made ready for binding. Four copies of the bound thesis are printed for the institute. (If it will be distributed to the jury members, a sufficient number of copies are printed.)

The Thesis Data Entry Form is filled out and printed from the Higher Education Council's https://tez.yok.gov.tr/UlusalTezMerkezi/ page. Two copies are submitted to the institute.

A student who is successful in the thesis defense creates 4 CDs related to their thesis. These CDs should contain the thesis in PDF format, recorded with the Reference number given by the system while arranging the Thesis Data Entry Form.

A Student Who Is Successful in the Thesis Defense Should Submit the Following Documents to the Institute:

  1. Thesis Data Entry Form (to be filled out at http://tez2.yok.gov.tr/)
  2. Jury Approval Form (Original with Wet Signature - 1 Copy)
  3. 4 CDs (CDs should be prepared as specified in the guide on the page http://sbe.mehmetakif.edu.tr/upload/17_06042011_62z88fv5fxn.pdf)
  4. Thesis Booklet in Compliance with the Thesis Writing Guide (4 Copies with Cardboard Cover and Bound) 5- Plagiarism Report (Originality Report - The rate should be at most 25%) Submitted to the Institute Directorate.

IMPORTANT: The names of the jury members should be included on the inner cover of the submitted theses. The student must submit the mentioned documents and theses to the institute within one month at the latest from the date of the thesis exam. The relevant institute administrative board can extend the submission period by at most one month if the student applies with a petition. A student who does not meet these conditions cannot receive their diploma, cannot benefit from student rights, and if the maximum period expires, their relationship with the program is terminated.

14- I FAILED THE DOCTORAL THESIS DEFENSE EXAM, WHAT SHOULD I DO?

Failure occurs in 2 ways; - If the thesis is rejected, the student's relationship with the institute is terminated. - If a revision is given, the student is given 6 months to revise the thesis and defend it again. The necessary revisions should be made within this period, and the thesis should be defended again before the same thesis jury.
